§ Why a Specialist

Hawai'i is not
Walt Disney World.

Walt Disney World is a contained, Disney-built resort city. Aulani is one wing of a larger Hawai'ian resort district — Ko Olina — that includes three other resort hotels, two championship golf courses, four engineered swimming lagoons, and a two-mile coastal walking path that loops the entire complex. Aulani done well is Aulani plus Ko Olani, not Aulani in isolation.

I have stayed on property in a standard room. I have walked the entire lagoon system. I know which lagoon is closest to the resort, which is the calmest for small kids, and which one most guests skip. The booking advice I give you reflects that — not a brochure.

I will tell you honestly: I have not stayed in an Aulani Villa or a Suite, because both are materially more expensive than a standard room and I have not yet justified the spend personally. I will plan a Villa or Suite stay for you, but the first-hand reference is the standard room. I will not pretend otherwise.

§ The Aulani Plan

What an Aulani plan covers.

Room Category

Standard, partial ocean view, ocean view, poolside, club level, suite, villa. Each tier explained, each tier priced, each tier ranked for your party.

Lagoon Strategy

Lagoon 1 vs Lagoon 2 vs Lagoon 3 vs Lagoon 4. Which is the calmest, which has the snorkeling, which is the kid-friendly one, and how to walk between them.

Off-Resort Days

North Shore. Pearl Harbor. Diamond Head. Hanauma Bay. Which are worth the day, which are not, and which are best as a half-day.

Aulani-Only Magic

Character breakfast, Ka Wa'a luau, Painted Sky teen experience, Aunty's Beach House. The Aulani-specific moments that don't exist anywhere else in the Disney portfolio.

§ When to Book

9–12 months out.

Aulani's busiest windows are mid-June through early August and the week between Christmas and New Year's. For those windows, book 9–12 months out — the standard rooms in the lower categories sell out earliest. For September, late-October, and the early-May "shoulder" windows, 6–9 months is enough.

Disney runs late-summer Aulani discounts almost every year — typically up to 25% off select stays of 5+ nights. I track them. When one releases, I'll tell you whether it's worth applying to your existing booking or whether the rate you locked in earlier is already better.
